Rezoning to

A PUBLIC hearing date has been
set for the proposed rezoning of
2179 Chairlift Road in West Van-
couver, despite negative votes on
the subject from Ald. Rod Day
and Ald. Carol Ann Reynolds.

“I'm still reluctant about this
and I’m not sure it should go to
public hearing,"’ said Day, who in-
troduced the agenda item, but
declined to make the motion for a
hearing.

Ald. Alex Brokenshire did the
honors, securing the vote for a
Sept. 25 hearing on the proposed
zoning change of three single-fami-
ly lots and two commercially-
zoned lots to multiple-family zon-
ing, with the accompanying change
to the Official Community Plan
(OCP).

This would allow for the con-
struction of 27 condominium units
in three-storey buildings designed
by Matsuzaki Wright Architects.

**[ think this matter should have
full discussion and input,’’ said
Ald. Andy Danyliu, giving his
reasons for supporting Broken-
shire’s motion.

Ald. Mark Sager agreed that
there probably is no viable com-
merical use for the commercially-
zoned property, but warned that
this was not to say that this would
not be so in the future.

The Advisory Planning Com-
mission has recommended approv-
al of the development application,
providing that the landscaping
helps retain existing trees and in-
cludes significant planting around
the buildings.

The hearing on the zoning and
OCP changes will be followed by a
public meeting to determine
whether the developer shauld
receive a development permit.
