About 30 members of CUPE Local 389 attended the council meeting Monday. Several spoke directly to council. Wednesday, June 25, 1997 ~ North Shore News — 41 Union wants NVD apology Union members are upset about the han- dling of a supposedly internal investiga- tion of an employee that somehow became public. CUPE Local 389 vice president Lucy Mason says that in ber entire 28 years of working, she has never experienced such a stressful and unstable working environ- ment as she is at present. And she says that council hasn’t helped. “It is disheartening and depress- ing co hear the comments and remarks of council which degrade and belittle your most supportive allies,” and “it is discour- aging that amongst all the criticism, pub- lic slurs, and innuendoes; there is seldom a word of encouragement or praise...” Mason’s remarks come on the heels of CUPE allegations that certain councillors don’t have any respect for district work- ers.
