By Kate Zimmerman News Reporter The small woods by Brooksbank elementary school have recently aturacted the attention of the parks, planning and development depart- ment, much to the consternation of some neighbors who regularly use the park. One man, who did not wish to be named, walks his dog in the area daily. Two weeks ago, he was alarmed to see a sign, at the park entrance at the end of Drayton Street stating that the municipal parks branch was upgrading the park roads. Alarm gave way to anger this week when he saw that a tree had been knocked down. ““T have to say, I freaked,” he for balf a said. “All Thad hoped to see was them taking a bulldozer with some gravel for the trails,” He got on the phone to the dis- trict and finally reached Jim Slater, the superintendent of Parks. Planning and Development. Complaining that the neighbors had not been consulted, the man asked Slater to speak to members of the Keithlynn-Brooksbank Community Association at a mecting at Brooksbank School on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. Slater agreed, but he believes a mountain is being made out of a molehill. Slater said the parks department is upgrading the trail system from the Keith Road hill at Brooksbank to Brooksbank school to bring the trails up to district stan- dard. Slater said one maple tree was removed to get its bobcat into the woods. Permission for the removal was given by the department forester. When the dead tree was spotted by neighbors, he said, “all hell broke loose.” He claimed many of the people using the trail system have applaud- ed the upgrade, telling workers they appreciate the fact that they are reducing the grades of inclines and sowing seed. Bat the neighbor who riised the ruckus feels ihe district is wasting money and energy. “if it's unnecessary and unre- quested,” he asked, “why do it?” SEPARATE ADMISSION FEATURES WITH HONORS 7:00 pm NO ESCAPE (R) Sillion B (NORTH g Hearing tests will be given atthe B Beltonc Hearing Aid Centre on S Monday to hie v —, | 2 Special Opening Offer S 15 Open for Lunch & Dinner % with this advertisement (fond only) OFF Expires June 32. 1994 7 days a week Excludes fandoori Dishes FREE Hearing Tests Set | For Senior Citizens VANCOUVER) - Thursday from 10:00 aum. to 4:00 p.m. trouble Anyone who has hearing is welcome to have the # test, Many people with hearing B problems don’t need hearing aids.
