46 - Wednesday, January 22, 1992 - North Shore News SPORTS Canada Dry tourney features best midget players in Lower Mainland ONCE AGAIN the North Van- couver Minor Hockey Association (NVMHA) is pleased to have been chosen by the Pacific Coast Ama- teur Hockey Association to host one of the Canada Dry Scholar- ship Tournament games which will be held ‘tonight at the Lonsdale recCentre at 7:15 p.m, This is one of a_ six-game round-robin tournament that will feature some of the best midget (i6 and 17—year—olds) players throughout the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley. The tournament consists of four teams with two teams each from the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley. Players are selected on the basis of scholastic average, sportsmanship and hockey skills. Players must have a ‘‘C’’ grade or better school average and they cannot have received either a match or gross misconduct penalty this season. Of special interest this year is the fact the co-coaches of the Greater Vancouver conference two team are Grant Kerr and Pat _ Maihara. , Kerr is the coach of North - Vancouver Midget ‘tA’? -Yic’s Restaurant team. He has an ex- tensive and successful record of coaching rep teams, having won ~a number of provincial champion- ships. Maihara is the coach of the North Vancouver Midget ‘‘B’’ North Shore Credit Union team. He has coached for eight years in NVMBA with his most recent success being the coaching of the 1991 Bantam ‘‘B’* Army Navy Air Force team which won the Greyhound Challenge Cup/Art Fisher Trophy as the provincial champions. Another distinguished member of the NVMHA coaching staff participating for his second time in this event is Andy Demeule, who has coached for 15 years in the NVMHA. He has been selected as the manager of the Greater Vancouver conference one team. Representing the Midget ‘‘B’’ team are Tyler Owen (goaltender), Todd Stojeic and Scott Souter (forward).
