Included are many of Adams’ best known images, such as ‘‘Moonrise, Hernandez’’ as well as some that have seldom been seen. For more than fifty years before his death last month, Adams photographed exten- sively throughout the coun- try, travelling repeatedly to the Southwest. His land- scapes, photographed with great respect and clarity, reflect his role as an active conservationist and a leading member of the Sierra Club. Images of Spanish missions are captured with the same sense of grandeur and dignity as are those of the Grand Ca- nyon. His photographs of the people native to the area are sensitive and direct, revealing their relationship to. the environment.
