HAVING ASKED LAST week where have all the Hot Rods gone, our photographer Ellsworth Dickson is starting to
find out. Above, working on his 1931 Model A Ford pickup, Rick Ross of North Van has spent two and one half
years on this project when not teaching sculpture at the Emily Carr College of Art. The engine is a 63 Ford 289,
Transmission is a Mustang 4 speed with a Hurst Competition shifter and the rear end is from a °70 Torino. Rick did
much work in re-designing the suspension which has a modified sprint car front end with a dropped axle. The front
disc brakes are from a Volvo. Steering is a Vega. When finished, Ross will have invested about $10,000.

Although words such as drill

not roll off your tongue as
readily as holiday or sum-

finding their way into
everyday conversation these
days, especially with the
