Al? - Sunday, May 1, 1983 - North Shore News New roof destroyed same day A NEWLY-SHAKED cedar roof on a house in West Vancouver lasted less than 90 minutes Tuesday. The roofer finished off the job and left the house at 6211 Overstone Drive at about 7:45 p.m.. By 9:10 p.m. West Van firefighters were busy tackling a blaze which destroyed about half the roof area. Chief fire prevention officer Art Ridley describes it as “a fluke” blaze. He attributes it to the fact that a rubberized gutter membrane on the facia boards finishing off the sides of the roof had to be softened with a torch in the final stages of the roofing yob. Wood behind the gutter began smoldering for about an hour, he said, with the roofer completley unaware of it. A neighbor spotted the fire and alerted the oc cupants of the house Mothers Day as Special as She Is with FLOWERS trom Se f« OO florists Dollars Shopping Centre 929-4822 World-Wide Delivery Open San .
