A8 - Wednesday, April 28, 1982 - North Shore News PE mailbox Having just read the West Vancouver Municipal News, I want to compliment the Communications Com- mittee, Trustees John Gregory and Dawn Sikula for an admirable job! With reference to your Chairman's message, I share your confidence “that with a unified effort we can im- prove the standards of education in our district, despite pinched dollars.” Our Superintendent's reverence and respect for his teachers, combined with our new Director of Ad- ministration’s obvious lateral thinking abilities, and the progressive programming coming from the Instruction sphere, complemented by the concrete information given to us, the parents and taxpayers, reaffirms that confidence. Thank you for the con- sultative atmosphere you have created since our somewhat catastrophic budget) misunderstandings. Sometimes we may say what we're concerned about in ways that can be mis- construed, but it is so im- portant that we say them. West Vancouver’ has shown its ability to plan with an ear to the “grass roots,” and that planning shows. We sometimes seem too careful, but that shared conservatism has brought about in- novative thought that has helped us achieve our own distinctive character that we all value. Now that we are on the Congrats, trustees! threshold of educational planning in this distnct, I hope we can use the same open, “grass roots,” con- sultative methods that have proved to successful in the past. Slower -- harder, but more effective. A massive effort will have to be made now that we are faced with external time and budget constraints. We must, in spite of that, as parents, trustees, educators, and as a society make that effort in a way that our children will not suffer. We must educate our young so they, in turn, can assume our responsibilities in the future. Alice W. Jennings West Vancouver Member of the human race, parent, teacher and taxpayer. Take some pride in Canada Dear Editor: I am shattered! I watched and read the news in total disbelief the day we became truly Canadian to see the eastern provinces celebrating the patriation of our constitution while we in the west sat in. aimost stunned silence! As far as I can ascertain we had no public celebrations taking place in British Columbia at all. This has finally brought home, to me at least, that perhaps westerners after all do not consider themselves Canadian. And it finally lends credence to the strength the W.C.C. are claiming. This was a momentous day in Canadian history yet I get the feeling it has been deliberately played down by the western media. Part of our nationa! an- them includes the words: “We stand on guard for thee”. For God's and Canada’s sake all you apathetic people out there. Article was inspiring Dear Editor.
