SORRY, NO ROOM for backseat drivers in Axel Gringmuth's all-electric Honda civic. The batteries take ap too much room. Gringmuth spent seven years ex- perimenting, and then just eight weekends building the car. He says it's un- sophisticated and amateurish but has 2 greater than 50 mile range. It only costs about 30 cents to recharge it every night, and the batteries are good for 25,000 miles. (Jan Smith photo) THE SKID MARK Know your bylaws By CONST. RANDY HERMAN , N.VAN.
