A feasibility presented to council last week envisages Cypress Estates residents calling a cab at 30 minutes notice to take them to the bus stop at peak periods. On the return joumey during the rush hour period the bus driver would order a cab by radiotelephone to Study meet the bus and drop commuters off at their homes. The study proposes a 50 cent cab fare each way in addition to the 40 cent bus fare. This is based on the concept of each cab carrying several passengers per imp and generating a revenue of approximately $14-$SI5 per. hour — with the aid of a subsidy amounting to bet- ween $14,750 and $19,750 per year, depending on use. The study suggests that the subsidy be split between the municipality and the Urban Transit Authority, which shared the cost of the study itself with West Vancouver. . The joker, for the moment, is the attitude of the taxi companies — so far unknown — to the hourly’ revenue proposal. Cypress park Estates is located on steep terrain near Cypress Falls Provincial Park, which is regarded as unsuitable for a bus route. More grants approved A grant of over $75,000 to the North Vancouver City Museum and Archives committee was part of the over $131,400 in grants approved by North Van- couver City council last week. Those possibilities included shared- ride taxis, mini-buses and a dial-a-bus system. If the municipality and the UTA decide that the latest plan is practical, it is un- derstood that it would be the first system of its kind in Canada. . Depending on the success of the scheme, it might later be extended to other areas not directly served by bus routes.
