eauty industry debuts high-tech moisturizers

ADVANCES IN skincave and cosmetics have brought the
beauty industry into the high-tech decade. But with
cosmetic companies louting new products with ingredients
like ceramides, lipids, liposomes and alpiia-hydroxi acids
(AHAs), understanding what works and what doesn’t could
require a science degree.
While the experts debate the
merits of one wrinkle-reducing
miracle solution over another,
women are making moisturizers
their No. 1 face-care purchase.
Last year alone, Canadian women
spent nearly $100 million on
moisturizing formulas.
What follows is a summary of a
selection of products on the mar-
ket — some new, some classics —
their ingredients and their clairns.

new product contains salicylic
acid, extracted from the bark of

the sweet birch tree. .

Like AHAs derived from fruits,
salicylic acid will eat away at the
top layer of skin, smoothing out
wrinkles and refining skin tone.
