small so-so rendition of the
classic Italian vegetable soup.
Smoked Salmon plate was all
right. Still needs work. Not
up to level of other Italian
restaurants in West and
North Vancouver.

Service: Eager and effi-
cient on a sunny Tuesday.
Knowledgeable, though a
touch intrusive during top-
level political meeting.

Price: Soups, salads and

petizers $3 to $7; Veal,
chicken and seafood $10 to
$17; pasta ($6 to $8).

Sundeck: Excellent south-
ern exposure roof-top model.
Seats 60. Glass walls to
shoulder height. A retractable
roof is on the drawing board.

Parking: Some streetfroni

rear lot. But, besides all those

Overview: Tiberio
Faedo’s La Cucina luncheon
experiment continues. It
began during the summer
with Quattyo owner Antonio
Corsi manning the kitchen
and Tiberio manning the
dining room. A winner from
the outset. Antonio has since
launched another Quattro i in
Whistler, but Za Cucina’s
kitchen draws on Quattro
staff for its luncheon wade.

Lunch hour attendance is
spotty. Or was on a recent
visit. On a warm day sit out-
side beneath the grape vine
and pick grapes when in sea-
son. La Cucina renovated in
May 1995. Great wine list;
gastronomic and viticultural
knowledge pervades the
place.

Location: North
Vancouver Marine Drive
strip. Patio dining experience
can be disrupted by traffic
noise.

. Lunch menu: A concise
selection of excellent Italian
dishes. Zuppa and Insalate
(Minestrone to Caprese salad
to Tirrenia — mixed greens
with shaved smoked goose
breast, crushed hazelnuts and

samic vinaigrette. Lasagnetta
Croceante. A superb dish:
two hockey-puck-sized
rounds of erispy pasta layered
and topped with groun
chicken, mascarpone, oyster
mushrooms and caciocavallo
cheese all surrounded by in a
fresh tomato sauce and
topped with a sprig of fresh
basil. Heap on the parmesan
for maximum enjoyment.

Service: White shirt and
tie. But not too much starch
in the collars.

Price: Soups, appetizers
and salads $4.50 to $9; pasta
$9.25 to $9.95; main entrees
$13 to $14.

Sundeck: Patio enclosed
