Artists lead walks / Searching out local creative inspiration § NORTH SHORE artists Trevor Carolan and Arnold Shives lead free public art-walks and workshops this weekend and next. By Layne Christensen Community Reporter The events are a part of the North Shore Arts Commission's Artists in the Community project. An essayist, poet and journalist, Carolan studied with Allen’ Ginsberg and Gary Snyder. He is also the author of the chil- dren's book Big Whiskers Saves the Cove. Shives is an internationally acclaimed print- Amaker who studied with Gordon Smith at - U,LB,C. before moving to San Francisco in “the '60s. Since returning to Vancouver he has - exhibited his work regularly. :. This Sunday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the artists conduct a hands-on fiterary - and visual arts workshop at Ron Andrews recreation, centre, “Carolan and Shives will address questions Be on writing and visual arts techniques, revi- sion and editing, motivation, emotional blocks, and selling and marketing your cre- ative work, On Saturday, March 30, Shives will lead a walk through Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. The area was a rich source of creative inspiration for Group of Seven painter Frederick Varley and should be, tou, for the participants of this art-walk who will be encouraged to write and sketch, The group meets at the main entrance to the park, in front of the caretaker’s house, at 10:30 a.m. A hands-on workshop in sketching, basic printmaking and writing will take place Sunday, March 31, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Ron Andrews. This is a basic how-to session for anyone interested in exploring the creative process of art and the professional elements critical to market success.
