and vehicles by 1995.

Mazda is also introducing CFC-
recovery and recycling equipment
for air conditioners in three major
areas: Japan, Europe and North
America.

Elimination of asbestos

This is another material that’s a

The car manufacturer is elimi-
nating asbestos from brake shoes,
clutch linings and gaskets that are
used in the vehicles.

Recycling

The Mazda HR-X2 concept car.

improve the recyclability of its
vehicles. —

The HR-X2 was designed to
facilitate recycling for virtually all
of its components. By utilizing a
liquid crystal polymer, for exam-
ple, the upper body of the car
becomes 100% recyclable.

veyed believe that new car sales
will be the same. or better.in 1994

. “Our dealers bave been fighting
tough markets for two years and are
ready to turn things around,” said
CAJAD president Rick O'Neill.

Industry’ Canada on selected
Japanese auto parts could help the
dealers’ predictions come true.

The tariff decrease is intended to
increase Canada’s international
competitiveness as a target for new
manufacturing investment.

But one analyst warns, “when
Mercedes and BMW huilt factories
in North Amercia, they chose the
U.S., not Canada.”

when the cars are scrapped.

Other materials being recycled
include the powder sand used in
the casting process, paper producis,
scrap metals, and slag (a byproduct
of the casting process). The slag is
apparently being used as a founda-
tion material for asphalt roads.
