Kerry probe

B.C. FERRY Corp. (BCFC) officials met Friday to con-
duct an internal investigation at Horseshoe Bay in the
wake of a ferry collision Thursday night.

A ferry struck a power boat as the ferry departed Soug
Cove on Bowen Istand.

BCFC spokesman Ed MeKenzie said the Queen of
Capilano had just deparied from Snug Cove at 9:10 p.m.
on its way to Horseshoe Bay when it struck 2 40-foot
power hoat docked nearby.

There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

McKenzie said the findings of the internal investigation
will be made public.

AirCare strike

THE B.C. Government Employees Union (BCGEU) was
expected to announce Friday that all unionized AirCure
workers would commence strike action Saturday, untess
there was a breakthrough in negotiations.

Meanwhile, John Nixon of Ebco-Hamilton Partners,
the operators of AirCare stations, said 204 of the 320
employees were scheduled to be laid off Friday morning.

The unton Is secking a first contract.

There is one AirCare station on the ’sorih Shore.

Duplex rejected

in a 3-3 vote.

NORTH VANCOUVER
District has trashed its own
scavenging bylaw.

In a surprising move Monday
night, the bylaw amendment that
would have made removing
tecyciables from the blue box
program a $50 offence was
defeated in a close 4-3 vote.

West Vancouver District already
has such a bylaw, but North Van-
couver City does not.

The amendment had passed its
previous three readings by a G to |
margin with only Coun. Janice
Harris expressing opposition to
the concept of fining scavengers.

But the delegation appearances
of Michael Dupasquier and) the
resulting publicity created enough
doubt in the minds of Mayor
Murray Dykeman and councillors
Joan Gadsby and Sint Cuthbert
that they changed their votes on
the issue,

Dupasquier supplements his in-
come by touring the North Shore
on foot, coliccting glass, metal

and plastic beverage containers
and returning them for their de-
posit.
