Tourism assoc. elects local NANCY STIBBARD, owner of the Capilano Suspension Bridge company, has been elected presi- dent of the Tourism Association of Southwestern B.C. Stibbard, a long-time director of the association, said: she plans to build on the association's cur- rent solid position in the industry te ensure continued prosperity for both the association and its members. The association is a private non-profit association and is one of nine tourism associations in B.C. Hs mandate is to promote southwestern B.C. as a tourist destination. First aid teams off to world finals TWO NORTH Vancouver rescue teams will be squaring off against each other in England at the Bux- ton International first-aid com- petition in October. North Vancouver's Coast Mountain Rescue team beat out eight other teams from around the province recently to win the pro- vincial Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) First-Aid competi- tion. They will now travel to the in- ternational competition in England. Once there, they will compete against last year’s defen- ding champions: the St. John Ambulance North Shore team. In 1989, the local St. John team placed first in the WCB provincial finals and also placed first in the first-aid category of the Buxton International competition to become world champions in first aid. Last year, the St. John Am- bulance North Shore team again took first place in the WCB pro- vincial finais and then swept first place in the Buxton competition. This year, the St. John Am- bulance Nevth Shore team did not compete in the WCB provincial round but decided to give its help and expertise to the Coast Moun- tain team.
