That was the case with) Mac Stevenson and it was only after his child, and the child of his col- league Laurie Snider, kad acci- dents in high chairs, that the two of them decided to do something about it. What Snider did was develop the prototype to a product called Baby Stay Put, which Stevenson is now selling at the Lonsdale Quay Mar- ket. It’s a diaper-shaned device with velcro and straps that is designed to prevent infants from falling out of high chairs. “He's a two part product. The first part is a diaper-shaped device that is adjustable. The bottom part is a stran-on device that straps on- to the chair,’ said Stevenson. “Every high chair is different in design and the base part of the product) becomes snug on the chair. tt’s very quick to assemble and the product works on all high chairs.”* Stevenson said the product has even worked on baby strollers, grocery carts and he has had en- quires about it for use on quadripalegics in wheelchairs, but adds that it was designed for high chair use only. “The original prototype came out two years ago and it has taken me two years to bring it to a finished stage. We haven’t really marketed the product yet, except here on the North Shore,’’ said Stevenson, who added that he has sold about 2,000 Baby Stay Put products to date. When he first made the product, he gave about 500 of them away to friends to get feedback on its use. Increases were recorded in all areas of lending, personal loans up 11 per cent, commercial loans up 18.5 per cent and residential mor- tgages up 9.6 per cent. “As a further measure OF a suc- cessful lending year and prudent policies, delinquency declined to 1.9 per cent of the loans portfolio, down from 2.6 per cent at the end of 1988,"" said Keller. “Properties held in setdement of defaulted loans were virtually elim- inated. Retained earnings grew substaintially to provide an ever strengthening reserve und equity base,”’ added Keller.
