Running back on way to record NORTH VANCOUVER’S Sean Millington narrowly missed the SFU Clansmen one-season rushing record set last year by Orville In Saturday’s game against Pacific Lutheran University, All- American candidate Millingtenm rushed for 55 yards — his lowest game total this season — meaning he has to rash for 40 more yards in the next two games to shatter the record. Lee, the Canadian Football League’s number-one draft pick this season and now a player with the Ottawa Rough Riders, set the °80-yard record fast year. Running back Millington, 20, has this season recorded five touchdowns for the Clansmen, and the Carson Graham Secondary graduate has been named a key game player four times in seven games; in September he was athlete of the month. Though he would grab a shot at a pro career, it is not an all- consuming goal. “Mest of it is really out of my hands,”’ Millington said in an earlier interview. ‘‘I just go out there and do what I have to do.”’ Millington will try to rack up those needed 40 yards to break the record this Saturday against the University of Puge? SPORTS JUNIOR HOCKEY Americans douse Flames HALLOWEEN CAME early for the NSWC Flames, but it brought them only tricks and no treats in back-to-back West Coast Junior Hockey League games on the weekend. At home Saturday, the Flames lost a 6-5 overtime decision to Ab- botsford and then suffered the same fate the following night in Seattle with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Northwest Americans. On Saturday, the league-leading Abbotsford Pilots doused the Flames with the game winner two minutes into the extra frames after battling back from a 5-2 third period deficit and forcing overtime with three unanswered goals. Trailing 2-0 after the first period and then falling behind 3-0 early in the second on a Pilot power play goal, a five-minute spearing major to Abbotsford opened the door to a Flames rally. Two quick goals by Scott Gor- don — the first at 7:18 from Ken Savage and Kevin Buhr followed by his second at 9:15 from Buhr and Wade Bartok — brought the Flames to within a goal. But before the period ended, the Pilots regained a three-goal lead with markers at 13:34 and 16:40 to carry a 5-2 lead heading into the third. Again an Abbotsford major penalty provided ihe spark for the Flames to get back into the game. John Cox combined with Wade Fischer and Scott Stirling for a power-play goal at 7:01 and then at 9:40 Gorden rapped home his hat trick goal to pull the Flames to within one, With just over three minutes remaining, Savage notched the equalizer from Bartok and Brad Minions to force the overtime period. The Flames were outshot 43-42 in regulation, but ovtshot the Pilots 5-3 in overtime with Gary Knight in goal for the North Shore squad. In Seattle on Sunday, the two teams trade power-play goals in the first period with Merilees scor- ing for the -Flames from Savage and Gordon at 3:30, and the American replying six minutes later.
