Gift to mark WV

A SMALL performing arts stage
combined with a teahouse in a rose
garden setting is the gift planned to
mark West Vancouver's Diamond
Jubi.ee.

The proposal was presented to
council March 23 by the 75th An-
niversary Committee. If the plan is
approved, a number of interesting
community activities are planned
to raise the necessary funds and to
provide an opportunity for every
West Vancouver resident to con-
tribute to the legacy and to be part
of the 75th anniversary celebra-
tions.

The cost of the proposed legacy
project is estimated at about
$650,900. It will be located in
Ambleside Park, east of 2nd close
to the building that houses the
present changing rooms and con-
cession unit.

said the proposed project is not a
performing arts centre, ‘it will
simply provide a small modern
stage facility for musical, theatrical
and dance groups to. present sum-
mertime entertainment in an at-
tractive park setting. And it will
eliminate the need for the tem-
porary staging which has been
erected each summer for the popu-
lar Sunday evening concerts and
such events as the Coho Festival.’*

There will be no admission
charge to the entertainment, but a
nominal fee will be charged for the
use of the rehearsal facility which
will be available to artistic groups
year round.

With the exception of a limited
number of benches, seating will be
on terraced grassy knolls.

The smail teahouse would
operate in conjunction with the ex-
isting concession unit.
