Funds for the over half a million dollar restoration project have come from grants from the Squamish Band, the Catholic Ar- chdiocese, two North Shore municipalities, the B.C. Construction, however, was suspended in January 1982 because of insufficient funds. But, in June 1982 the federal government made a grant which reprcsented around half of the restoration costs. Schmidt reported that on December 5, 1982 “the church once again opened its doors for services, more than two years after the project had closed it down,” with the official reopening set for June 26. The new slate of officers elected for the Society at its annual meeting were: Yvonne Schmidt (president), Father Tom Lascelles (vice- president), Sid Walker (treasurer), Sheila Thomp- son (secretary), Louis Miranda (honorary life member), Jim Miltar and Earl Newman (joint chairmen of the preservation committee), Lois Guss and Percy Paull (band council liaison).
