Mounce closes chapter as WV Today Mounce says goodbye to West Vancouver book-lovers By Deana Lancaster Contributing Writer dcana@nsnews.com A couple of hours north of Nanaimo, then a short ferry ri¢e out of Fanny Bay lies Denman Island: a narrow strip of land covered in trees and ringed wit! rollin, worn sandstone. This is where Jack Mounce, chief librarian at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, will be spending much of his time after his retirement today. “My wife and I have a place on Denman Island, it needs renovations. That will take some time,” he said. And although he’s lookin forward to the peace and quiet of Denman, to spending time skiing and golfing with friends, he’s going to miss the Sib After all, he’s been there 15 years. “Ir has been a wonderful time . a satisfying job to have had.” Since he started ir 1982, the building has more than doubled in size, expanded its computer catalogue (it was one of the first libraries to get rid of the card cat- aloguc), added PCs, CD-Roms, and gone online. The gallery, which was just a small space used for monthly shows before the ‘92/93 renova- tions, has grown into one of the North Shore’s foremost sxhibi- tion spaces. The expansion itself will long - live in Mounce’s memory as a particulaiiy exciting time. “We had a fundraising campaign that was very successful,” he said. “There were so many lovely people chat got involved.” But he will also remember the smaller challenges. She is currently the Deputy Director of Fort Vancouver Regional Library in Washington State. The Fort Vancouver library consists of 10 branches in four counties and has an anaual budget of $12,000.
