More than 130 competitors came to the tournament from clubs in the Gima-ha Shoto-ryu Karate Association, including eight members from North Vancouver and four from West Vancouver. In Kata, an event where cach competitor performs a series of pre-arranged movements against imaginary opponents in front of five judges, Aly Jiwani and Neel Anand were awarded gold medals in the two boys’ C divisions while Andre Chartand netted a bronze. In the men's C division, Wally Sullivan earned a gold medal as did Susan Nakagawa in the women’s C division. Neil .Moody won a bronze in the men’s A black belt division. In Kumite, an event where com- petitors spar against an opponent, D.J. Kennedy won a silver medal in boys’ C division while bronze medals went to Irphan Jiwani in boys’ (eight and under) yellow belt, Charland in boys’ (nine to 12 years) yellow belt and Takeshi Kuroda in the green belt division. In girls’ junior B, Cathryn Stott won the silver medai. Sullivan added a silver to his medals in the men’s C division while Rob Bustamante captured the bronze in men’s B division. Moody alse earned a bronze medal in men's A black belt division and was awarded the Higuchi Trophy for Grand Champion. Both North Shore clubs practise Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rangers winning streak ends IN THE biggest upset of the North Shore Industrial Hockey League season, pointless Westwood Hon- da put an end to the Raven Rangers’ nine-game unbeaten streak this weekend. The Rangers opened the scoring halfway through the first period to take the lead, but Westwood Hon- da continued to exchange goal for goal. Going into the second period, the score stood at 3-2 for the Rangers. After tying at 3-3, Ed Andrew put Westwood ahead for the first time at 14:10 on the se- cond. Then Al Andrew scored his first goal one minute later to increase Westwood's lead to 5-3. The Rangers fought back to knot the game at 5-5 at the end of the second. In the third, the Rangers went ahead again, but Westwood was not to be denied. With 1:58 remaining, Andrew tied the game at 6-6 and with 15 seconds left on the clock, Jon Mogg finished off the Rangers.
