24 - Wednesday, June 24, 1987 - North Shore News Sports Eagles face Eyford in baseball final SKYLINE won the North Van- couver Central Major Little League regular season title June 18 with a 5-0 win uver Eyford, but was knocked out of the league playoff race by the same team. Skyline, with a record of 14 wins and four losses, was tied with the Eagles but took the league title by virtue of its four-win, two-loss re- cord against the Eagles. In June 21 semi-final playoff ac- tion, Eyford beat Skyline 5-1. The winning pitcher was David Hartley, who struck out 15 batters THE REBELS charged into the lead in the Forest Hills Major League by going undefeated in the first half of regular-season baseball play. The team got off to a fast start in the season’s opener, beating Skyline Sports 8-0 behind Adam Derkach’s one-hit, 16 strike-out pitching performance. The league’s opening ceremo- nies, where presentations were made to long-time executive member Red Robinson and former president John Wittig, were followed by the Rebel’s 9-5 victory over Highland Optical. Michael Koch’s home run and Jamie Commerford’s key double overcame a Highland lead that had been sparked by home runs from Brandon Armstrong and Stuart Doyle. Stong’s, with strong pitching from David Byron and Kevin Milos, kept close to the leaders with wins over Skyline Sports and Highland Optical. The early season activity set up a first place battle between Stong’s and the Rebels. After five scoreless innings, tong’s took advantage of two Rebel errors and a key hit by Milos to take a 2-0 lead, but the Rebels fought back with five hits. Brent Follett’s double drove in the winning run in the 3-2 victory. In the minor league, 7-Eleven won six of their first seven games to take a large first-place lead, thanks to their consistent pitching. After losing 11-9 to Whitman Electric, 7-Eleven came back to beat Bonanza Restaurants 8-5, Mac’s !2-2 and Whitman 17-5.
