(Michael Howell-Iones photo) — A funny night un Theatre Under the Stars opens the 1981 season with Stephen Sondheim's won- derful wacky musical “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum" written by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart and loosely based on the comedies of Plautus. “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” traces the bumbling ad- ventures of Pscudolus, an inept but well-meaning Roman slave, as he strives to gain his freedom. Along the way .he encounters such unlikely characters as an oversize general, undersize eunuchs, together with a dirty old man, a domincering female and a bevy of Roman maidens. Finally, Pseudolus overcomes various pitfalls of slavery, sorcery, seduction to emerge os a free man. Clyde Rowctt recreates his successful role as Pscudolus, supported by a high cnergy cast including some of the best musical comedians that Vancouver has to offer.
