Health and Welfare Min- ister Marc Lalonde has ‘announced details of a program created to acknow- ledge the contribution made by Canadians in the prom- otion of positive health lifestyie in their commun- ities. ’ The Lifestyle Award prog- ram is an .element . of Operation Lifestyle, a public education campaign devecl- oped by the department to encourage. Canadians to as- sume greater responsibility for their own health. ‘ In announcing the new program, Mr. Lalonde indi- cated that while the main purpose of the Lifestyle Award is to bring recognition to individuals who have worked for years, often unrecongnized, to raise the level of health awareness in their community, it is hoped that it will also serve to reinforce voluntary action among Canadians. Deserving persons may be nominated by community matinnal BSCEULAWZEAGEA organizations, and provincial as- Pr 112 sae sociations or municipal gov- ernments . Nominees . should have actively-given of their time | and energy on a volunteer basis to the improvement of health habits in the com- -munity or had significant involvement in the provision of health-related facilities or services. These projects should have been undertaken for a considerable period of time and had a significant impact on members of the community. Persons selected will rec- eive a medallion featuring the symbol for the Operation Lifestyle campaign and a certificate of recognition.
