16 —- North Shore News — Friday, September 29, 2000 NV musician Durns Bright Craig Wilson releases demo dan-Christian Sorensen News Reporter porenscn@nusnews.com I first met Craig Wilson at a raucous North Vancouver weekend house party, the events of which I recall with varying degrees of clarity. The 36-vear-old graphic designer and musician, along : With - two ‘other compatriots, - was the evening’s main source of entertainment. ;. And-the one thing worth remembering about the event. :.-. Jammed into the confined, * candlelit living room, the band ..-fipped its way through a:selec- tion of original and cover tunes and kept the party keved-up and marching steadily toward the early-morning hours. The band’s formula was simple, but essential for the success of any good house band: druins, guitar and bass. Boiled down to its core, raw and loud rock-n’-roll. Wilson’s recently-released, self-produced demo CD has that same rootsy, baked-in basement house party sound. It's a catchy collection of eight honest and original wacks that serves as a solid introduction to Wilson's vocal and songwriting talents. He cut the CD during a guernilla-recording session in a makeshift studio in the base- ment of his North Vancouver home — where he also runs an at-home design business called Real Time Graphics. He enlisted the help of a pair of local musicians — bassist Don Binns and drum- saner Don Short, the same ovo that teamed with Wilson at the house party — and thus, the Craig Wilson band was struck, » albeit if only for the life of the recording session. “I just sort of borrowed the guys for the album. They did- n't ever say ‘Hey, I'm into (forming) a band’,” - said n. “They basically played the investors Group’ ne a a eats NEWS photo Terry Peters NORTH Vancouver singer and songwriter Craig Wilson cut his self-produced demo CD in a makeshift record-_ - ing studio in the basement of his home. ; : : role of studio musicians, They came in and did their part, and put on a pretty strong pertor- mance.” Wilson initially burned close to a hundred CDs and is plan- ning on making another pro- duction run in the not-too-dis- tant future. One of the highlights of the album is the first track, “Paradise”, 2 slow-moving, harmonic ode that Wilson penned for his wife Misha.
