— Friday. November 27. 1998 ~ North Shore News North Van bui Deana Lancaster News Reporter drana@nsnews.com IT’S all in the details. That's the way West Vancouver builder Mark Patitucei approaches his work, and it’s clear the home building industry agrees with his philosophy. On Nov. 7, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Paritucei won a Gold Georgic Award for Best Single Family Detached Home from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of B.C. for his work on the West Vancouver home of Graeme and Cheryl Curtie He began work on the project using plans drawn up by the Vancouver company, Bokdwing Architecture. Bur it was together with interior design consultant Joni Mar. of Design For Living, and the Curries. that the details were put inte place. “We coulde’: find a home thar suited us.” said Cheryl Currie. Bur they did add plenty of features to their wish fist as they flipped through magazines trying to zero in on what they were looking for in a home. “Tkept saving “If we built a home, Md | want this.” And I started cutting pictures out.” She filed them in a hox, and when the couple decid- e¢d to go ahead and build their dream home, her clippings came in handy. Graeme Currie already knew: Patitueei and his work, and they found Mar through a reter- ence from a friend. Although they had never worked together before, the combination was a good one. “Most projects, the work is compartmental- ized,” said Mar. “You look at them and say ‘The builder did thar, the designer did that, and the homeowner did that,” but this isn’t like that at all. And we had so much fun.” From the choice of colours in the home, to the diamond-patterned tiles set into the hard- wood-floored entrance, to the stone “keys” adorning the corners of each doorway, and the graceful block relief pattern in the ceiling of the master bedroom, the collaboration simply worked. Which is kind of surprising, considering all the mayhem which accompanied construction.
