PCs choosing candidate Dear Editor: On behalf of the committee coordinating the nominating meeting to choose a Progressive Conservative candidate for the constituency of North Vancouver, 1 would like to respond to the let- ter from Ted White, the Reform party candidate, which was published in the March 17 issue of the North Shore News. In his letter White refers to rumors which have Kim Campbell secking the Progressive Comser- vative nomination in this riding. Let me assure him, and anyone else who believes unsubstantiated tumors, that the Riding Assacia- tion is comfortable with the knowledge that Ms. Campbell ful- ly intends to continue her political career as the serving federal Member of Parliament for Van- couver Centre. Since receiving Chuck Cook’s advice in early December that he would be retiring, the riding association has been planning a nominating meeting. During his .political career, Chuck established a somewhat maverick reputation in politics by putting the best interests of his constituents first. He was nota ‘tyes’? man. He was fully supported by his riding association and served his constituents honestly and ably from 1979 until his unexpected death in February. He was looking forward to overseeing the nominating process and we shall miss his good counsel, Our nominating meeting has been planned for June 24 and we are expecting that several potential candidates with strong ties to this NSMS objective to foster harmony among students Dear Editor: We are writing to thank you for your coverage of the dinner held by the North Shore Multicultural Society (NSMS) in your March 3 issue. ft is unfortunate, however, that the first time you see suitable to mention a public event ozganized by our society, it is on a social note containing many misrepre- sentations. We do not want to enter into a debate of the accuracy of every Statement, as we feel most do not merit a response. We do, however, want to clarify two issues. . Firstly, the North Shore Multicultural Society is a non- partisan, ton-religious organiza- tion. We do not support any political _ party although we may from time to time support an initiative of a DEet ae Vv | BROKE! | WE CAN MAKE THEM BETTER WITHOUT BREAKING YOU! . oe : (BL nano ns coupon an your ver or. f° ~-TVTO THE VIDEO RE-AT SHOP FOR - REPAIR OR A 10 POINT CLEANING AND’ | ‘RECEIVE AFUJI VHS TAPEFREE!® . Secondly, we do not advocate the elimination of freedom of speech. What we do advocate is respon- sible journalism, “Promoting hatred against specifie groups or individuals is, in our opinion, not responsible journalism, The NSMS's objective is to foster understanding and harmo- nious relations among all the resi- dents of the North Shore.
