WEST VANCOUVER School Eoard accepted a recom-
mendation Monday to begin a cross-district testing pro-
gram for elementary school students.

much more precise measure of how
students are doing in the

The testing program improves
on current assessment methods by
more accurately measuring the
strengths and weaknesses of stu-
dents, said superintendent of
schools Ed Carlin.

He added that the program also
aims to measure the achievement

the system to protect my child
from me. I want the system to
work ina partnership with 17.2."

The program, recommended by
West Vanccuver School District
45’s six-member report card com-

mittee, consists of the Canadian
Achievement Test and the Test of
Cognitive Skills, both conceived by
McGraw-Hill.

The cost for implementing the
program next year on a trial basis
will be $14,000, or $6 per student.
The cost will be $11,000 in subse-
quent years.

Trustee Hugh Stark said care
must be taken in implementing the
program.
