The drive is being organized to Taise money for a Cap College grand piano. Music instructors compare train- ing a serious pianist on an upright piano to trying to become a con- noisseur of wines by practising on domestic house reds. Students transferring to UBC or other institutions from Cap have to relearn their skills on bigger pianos, and the college has had to- forego piano recitals ‘for lack of a suitable instrument. Consequently, the Music Department has started a Grand Piano Fund, and one of the first fund-raising projects is a concert to be held tonight at 8 p.m. : Guitarist and lutenist . ‘James Reid, director of the guitar pro- gram at the University of Idaho, will be ‘playing selections from the renaissance, baroque, and classical periods and the 20th century. Admission to the recital is by donation to the Grand . Piano Fund, with income tax receipts be- ing provided for donations over $5.
