SIR ARTHUR battles with Kaj Hvalrgaard for the hand of a lovely maiden last Saturday at Queen Mary School's playground. The two knights are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which holds practices every Tuesday night at the school at 7 p.m. The gatherings have attracted as many as 500 people. FEDERAL aviation officals are prepared to accommodate as many as 30,000 privately owned aircraft expected to visit the Lower Mainland during Expo 86. A survey conducted for Transport Canada by Chowne, Beatson Management Consultants suggests that up to twice the average of 15,000 general aviation trips to the seven airports in the Lower Mainland may be expected during Expo 86. - Up to 18,000 trips are expected to originate in the United States, particularly Washington, Oregon and California. About three Expo 86 visitors are expected on each privately owned aircraft. The projected 105,000 visitors are forecast to stay nearly four days. Airport facilities are sufficient to cope with the anticipated general aviation traffic. If required, addi- tional aircraft parking can easily be made available during peak periods. Transport Canada is publishing a General Aviation Guide for Expo 86, which will be distributed free of charge through Flight Service Stations and some fixed base op- erators in Canada and the United States within a day’s flying time of the Lower Mainland. It will also be available directly from Transport Canada by February 1986 to help pilots plan visits. The Guide, which does not replace air navigation publications and charts, is designed to give the general aviation pilot advance general information on airports and their facilities, sources for air navigation publications and air traffic control procedures. It will also help a pilot familiar- ize himself with the general avia- tion environment around Van- couver. Fiecycling continues THE GREATER Vancouver Regional District has approved funds totalling $100,000 to con- tinue its recycling promotion pro- gram during 1986. The program, initiated four years ago, is directed by a commit- tee composed of representatives from the private and public sec- tors, non-profit socictics and community organizations. Public interest has increased significantly since the start of the program. Recycling of materials such as newspaper, cardboard, glass and metal has risen sharply. Some form of regular curbside newspaper pickup now operates in most Greater Vancouver municipalities. Among the activities co-or- dinated through the GVRD recycl- ing committee are an education program in elementary schools, the production of brochures and posters, funding for a recycle hotline, and the arrangement and promotion of a recycle month in NEWS photo Mike Wakefield | the Lower Mainland. 5 minutes walk _ East from Expo VANCOUVER FLEA MARKET 685-0666 40,000 SQ.FT.
