News survey shows

little vote movement

TORY CANDIDATES remain strongly in the
lead among decided North Shore voters, with
Liberals losing some ground to the NDP and

minor parties putting on a modest spurt, accor-
ding to a new North Shore News poll.

At the same time, the high
percentage of undecided
voters and respondents who
refused to answer, a total of
49 per cent, was unchanged
from the previous survey 12
days earlier

The latest telephone poll,
conducted August 27, asked
a geographically balanced
random sample of 357
households from Deep Cove
to Horseshoe Bay: ‘‘If the
election were held = today,
which party would you vote
for?”’

Overall, the full percent-
age figures for the entre
North Shore (with figures
for decided voters alone
shown 1n brackets) were as
follows

These North Van-Burnaby
figures do not include the
approximately 38 per cent of
the riding’s voters who live
in Burnaby. In recent federal
elecuions the NDP has tend-
ed to be stronger in the Bur-
naby portion of the riding
than in North Van.

(Compared to the previous
News poll on August 15, the
Conservatives lost ground
somewhat among. decided
volers in Wapilano riding
(64% versus the previous
69%) but gained in North
Van-Burnaby riding (58%
versus the previous 55%).
