Dick Phillips of the Baseball Canadians officially opened the Forest Hills Little League Baseball Season this past Saturday. Dick as manager of the Canadians, was on a tight schedule as he had an after- noon game that day at Nat Bailey Stadium. He spoke about his personal ex- perience with little league baseball and complimented the President of Forest Hills Little League, John Wittig, on the tremendous organization in place. Over four hundred players were in team uniforms on the field to hear the official opening of the season. The weatherman cooperated for the festivities. Last year’s winners of the Robert Biddlecombe Memortal Award, Tony Woghelemuth and Kevin Smith tossed out the first ball to launch the season. Dick Phillips handed out awards during the ceremonies. Jeff Hill was given the Coach Of The Year Award for his efforts in the 1982 season. Jeff coached a junior Colt team durnng the past season. A special award was presented to Terry Quelch for his efforts over the past eight years on behalf of Little League Baseball. Terry retired last year as Minor League coordinator. Little League Baseball would not enjoy its success in Canada without the help of sponsors. A _ special presentation was made to Dunn's Tailors who have been sponsoring Little League Teams in Forest Hills for over 15 years. Clarence Conn of Dunn’s was sited for his outstanding contnbution to the League. New sponsors in Forest Hills this year include, the Capilano Lions Club, Mac's Convenience Store, Davies Pharmacy, Village Chevron, and Howard’s Hawks. Following the ceremonies, two games were played at Eldon Park. The initial game started at 1:00 p.m., putting Highland Optical against Skyline Sports.
