This eliminates the need for a cash deposit placed with the L.D.B. here before they will allow the goods to be shipped. All is well until my return home. These charges vary because of methods of transport and distances involved but would ‘ probably work out to 50 cents_a bottle. The duty on ‘wine by the case is $3.89 so that adds approximately 33 cents to my bottle. So far the total cost - basic, freight and duty has brought the price up to $1.28. Next, the Federal Sales Tax of 12 percent is added, calculated on all costs so far. How they can charge sales. 7 tax on freight and duty boggles my mind but add 16 wt cents. We're up to $1.44. see If the buck could stop right there, ['d have a real wine bargain BUT the B.C. Government has decreed that no bottle of imported wine can be obtained here for less than $2.75. They have added a markup of 110 per cent to the previous figure, bringing the price to $3.05. Had this figure been under $2.75 it would be adjusted to match. Don’t forget Provincial Sales Tax of 7 percent as a final add-on. From the time the wine lands in Vancouver to the time it gets poured for dinner, the cost has more than tripled.
