and now lives in Toronto.

Another new face is that
of Pauline LeBel who has
been singing since her early
childhood in Windsor,
Ontario. Since 1970, she has
been living and working in
Edmonton and has become
well known as a Canadian
artist, particularly in stage
shows.

FAMILIAR FACES

Kelly Garrett was
discovered on Johnny
Carson's Tonight Show and
has starred in club acts in
Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and
Reno. This is her Telethon
debut.

There are many familiar
faces from past Telethons —
including the talented Leon
Bibb, Denise McCann. Lee
Norris, Pat Rose, Victoria's

Peter Chipman and _ the
remarkable Ormiston’ En-
tertainers.

Steve Ivings, an im-
pressionist, is making his
debut. and an _ 11-year-old
handicapped actress,

Melanie Watson, is visiting
her first Telethon stage.

Melanie is a very special
child from Calhfornia who
has appeared on television's
Fantasy Island. She has
telescopic steel rods inserted
in her legs and she has
become an accomplished
water ballet swimmer.

The cause, of course, is
what has captured the
imaginations of al! British
Columbians since 1966 — 13
Telethons ago when Vanety
Club's first major project
was a farm training centre
for mentally retarded youths
in the Lower Fraser Valley.
It was unthinkable then that
a project needing over
$450,000 in funds could be
built through donations of
dimes and nickels. But it
happened and Variety Club
is now working on its fourth
major project and its fourth
consecutive million-dollar
fund-raiser.

for the Variety Club
Telethon taking place
February 16and 17.

The 12 staff at La Coupe

for a minimum donation of
$5.

The salon is open from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. and no ap-
