2- Wednesday, November 20, 1945 - North Shore News ELECTION RESULTS And the winners are... NORTH Shore municipal elections ended with few sur- prises and fewer changes. In North Vancouver, 18.6 per cent of the city’s eligible voters returned all but one of six incumbent aldermen. With Mayor Jack Loucks being acclaimed for his fourth term, voters were Testricted to choosing six aldermen for two year terms from 12 candidates, and three school board trustees from five candidates. BRAITHWAITE TOPS Ald. John Braithwaite, seeking his fourth term, topped the aldermanic polls with 2,598 votes followed by Ald. Stella Jo Dean with 2,195. Dean has served on North Vancouver council for the past 15 years. Ald. Allan Blair, Ralph Hall, and Dana Taylor were all returned with Taylor garnering 1,603 to win the last aldermanic seat. Elko Kroon, a North Vancouver city alderman = from 1977 to 1983, was the sole newcomer elected to council posting 1,666 votes. Kroon replaced defeated in- cumbent Rod Clark. Community Electors Association candidate Bill Bell finished 97 votes behind Clark with 1,443. votes, eighth best overall. North Vancouver's school board remained unchanged. The three Citizens for Responsibie Education can- didates swept back into power. Philip loe topped the voting with 2,459 followed by Margaret Jessup with 2,415, and Rev. Ross Dungey with 2,202. All three will serve two-year terms. Nearest challenger was Sue Cook with 1,484 votes. TURNOUT DISMAL Though the 18 per cent turnout was low in North Vancouver city with 3,818 out of 21,000 eligible voters casting ballots, it was an improvement over 1983's election turnout of a paltry 13.5 per cent. Ald. Diana Hutchinson, seeking her fourth term, topped the West Vancouver Polls with 6,934. Incumbent David Finlay finished second overall with 4,436, followed by Ald. Gordon Rowntree who racked up 5,604 votes. Closest challenger was Rev. William Perry with 3,532. Voter turnout in the municipality was down from 1984's 43.5 per cent. Thanks to the support of our good neighbours in West Jancouver, local businesses now have the right to open on Sundays.
