Others carned a university degree but saw more oppor- tunity in the high tech sector. The one thing they have in common is that all found a full time, well paying job almost immediately after graduating from computer training programs. Mike Dunn entered BCIT’s Computer System Technology course after taking a year off after high school. He took the applied artificial intel- ligence option and graduated last June. “I grew up with computers,” he said. “I’ve always been very good at using them and it’s something I enjoy doing.” : Dunn, 21, works for Tri-Link Technologies, a com: pany thar makes computer networks. The. company has about 25 employees currently, and is rapidly growing. Upon graduation, Dunn was told he could expect a start- — ing salary in the $35,000 to $40,000 range. He’s -cur- rently doing contract work, which (without benefits): results in a salary of $50,000. Dunn chose BCIT’s CST course because it concentrated on computers and because it was only two years long - an important consideration in a rapidly changing industry. “By the time we graduated, the first course we had taken would be only: two 0 years ¢ out: of date,” he said.
