I, among the hundreds of thou-
sands of the silent majority, have
absolutely, positively, definitely,
finally and irrevocably cnough of
teenage (gang) violence!

What is in the Young Offend-
ers’ Act (YOA) for us, the com-
pletely innocent, vulnerable vic-
tims, taken completely by sur-
prise?

{ don't care anymore for the
velvet- touch approach toward the
“young” offender (he/she knows
exactly what he/she is prepared/
planning to dof).

In the States, they have been
trying much tougher approaches,
from case to case with success.

What are those pampered, rude,
ill-mannered — snot-faces waiting
for?

If you are bored to death —
tough!

Find yourselves worthwhile oc-
cupations — get together for that
reason, not for the mind-numbing
reasons of ‘forming gangs of [5
and then go out and find vic-

Dear Editor:

This is a letter of concern re-
garding your April 11 article on
gangs and the North Shore’s Un-
derground Posse.

1 have been a resident of the
North Shore for seven years and
have witnessed the up and coming
of local gangs.

Many factors have arded to
gang wildfire; the main factor is
news publicity.

1 found it sickening that a re-
spectable paper like yours would
add to the problem by’ glorifying
gangs and violence.

Articles like yours do nothing
but make more kids want to join
gangs.

We are supposed to be combat-
ting the problem, not glorifying
and publicizing it.

In my opiniew it would make
more sense to ‘give Page .3
coverage to youths who are doing
something “positive, not people
who are leiding to the destruction
of our society.

Lam writing in regard ta the
printing of your article on the
Underground Posse. *

This article was a big joke.

All it: accomplished was the
glorifying of tocal punks and
the worrying of parents every-
where.

Those two guys talk about
being so tough and you made
everyone else listen to them
too.

They think that 1S guys
beating on one person is tough,

others, that the Young Offenders’
Act be changed, meaning the
name of the YO will be published
all over (schools, media, TV).
That will make them think twice
and — lest we forget — their
parents will more compassionately
influence their children into fife
without crime.
The same goes for our teachers!
Change the YOA N-O-W!
