THE UPCOMING weekend constitutes an American invasion of sorts.
An onslaught of 360 girls and boys soccer teams from Washington
are coming to the North Shore and other Lower Mainland communities.

The players and their families will number more than 15,000 Ameri-
cans flooding across the border Nov. 3.

The teams are here te play the second round of the away and home
exhibition series.

This annual event, Known as the BLC./Washington Youth Soccer Ex-
change, begaa Oct. 21 when our teams travelled to the U.S. Boys and
girls aged eight to 15 are participating in the exchange.

The North Shore will play hast to 58 of the teams.

The North Shore Girls Soccer Club will entertain 12 U.S. girl's teams

while the West Vancouver Club will sponsor seven. girl's and 10 boy's
teams. The Mt. Seymour and Lions Gate Clabs wiit each host 10 teams
while the Lyan Valley Club will welcome nine others.

Friendship in Soccer is the theme of the weekend. Visiting players en-
Joy planned achivities, outings and parties for the balance of Saturday
and spend the night in their host's home.

Visiting parents are reunited with their children on Sunday morning
and the two teams play cach other on local fields. Club coordinators on
both sides of the border work to match the skill levels of the teams and
good competition results.

Exchange director for the North Share, Doug Haagenson, says the
overall participation for the exchange is down slightly this year because
some American teams were not able to find Canadian partners.
