It began it in 1975 when a small group’met, to discuss how they could/help, Other elderly West Vancouverites less active or less _, mobile than themselves. They adopted the ‘slogan “Seniors Help- ing Seniors" (which says it all) and formed the first organization of its ' kind in Canada. Today, operating outof the West Van Seniors Cen- tre, they've grown to over 60 vol- unteers looking after some 100 “clients” — with daily phone calls .. to shut-ins, transport to doctors’ appointments, therapy, banks, ‘etc. and many other personal services for less physically fortunate con- temporaries. At'the anniversary luncheon, Abernethy during Volunteer Week,’ president Dorothy Ash welcomed special guests Lynda Lyons : (Seniors Centre director), Robyn McGuinnes and Don Calder. Indi- vidual certificates of recognition -were presented by treasurer Helen * Martin to seven-year members Margaret Bustin, Agnes Falconer, . Roth Kidd, Jancey Lim, Ethel - Rutherford, Anne Wilson and Ruth Zuest.
