Contest proves popular

ALMOST 200 professional fashion
designers and student designers
have requested information for the
Dubonnet Design contest.

The contest was announced a
month ago by Dubonnet Interna-
tional to encourage and promote
Canadian fashion.

“The pamphlet was still on the
presses when we already had
received almost 200 enquiries con-
cerning the contest from Quebec,
Ontario and British Columbia,”’
said Marc Nougayrol, the repre-
sentative in Canada of Dubonnet
Iniernational.

“This great wave of interest fol-
lowing the launch of our contests
on April 9, illustrates the en-
thusiasm of individual fashion de-
signers across Canada to exhibit
and display their creativity to the
population and to the industry
itself.””

Participants in both Dubonnet
Design contests — one for profes-
sionals, one for students — must
produce and submit sketches of

their creations in ready-to-wear
styling.

Deadlines for filing entries are
June 15 for professionals and July
15 for students. After that,
deadlines for submitting sketches
are June 30 for professionals and
August 14 for students.

The creations of 20 finalists,
selected by a jury, will be pres-
ented at the Dubonnet Design Gala
to be held September. The four

winners, two in the professional
category and two in the student
category, will be announced at the
gala. Each will receive the 1987
Dubonnet Design Trophy and
share $14,000 in prize money.
