Al0 - Sunday, September 9, 1984 - North Shore News inquiring reporter by Ellsworth Dickson number of experts in the insurance field are advocating that both the drinking and driving age be raised. They also would impose restrictions on teenage drivers such as no night driving and a limited number of passengers. Todays question is: ‘‘Should the drinking and driving ages be raised?’ Allan Wood North Vancouver I like the idea of young men not driving at night with a carload of teenagers. [ think the drinking age should be raised to 21. It is very sad how many peuple are killed or injured by young drinking drivers Katherine Wilson North Vancouver I'm all for it. So many people are seriously hurt by drinking drivers that maybe it is time for strict measures. | like the idea of restrictions for teenage drivers. And let’s raise the drinking age to 21. Over the past month, five of the recycling bins and their contents have been burned by vandals, while a sixth was emptied into the Port Co- quitlam river. The locastions vary — Park Royal, New Westminster, UBC, 41st & Dunbar, Port Coquitlam, but the results are always the same — lost money for han- dicapped children. “It’s very frustrating,”’ says Jack Aceman, Recycling Chairman. ‘‘These people just don’t realize that the harm they are doing extends far beyond a box of news- papers.”” Aceman went on [to say that there is a danger of los- ing bin locations if vandalism persists. become Property owners concerned that damage will extend to their buildings and grounds and could request that the bin be removed permanently. This would result in a loss of up to $1,000 a week per bin. The Variety Club has twenty-four newspaper recycling bins situated throughout Greater Van- couver. Last year collection from the bins resulted in $85,000 being raised for han- dicapped chitdren’s programs. Aceman asks for the public’s assistance in stopp- ing these attacks by taking note of the location of the Variety Club recycling bin in their neighborhood and reporting any suspicious behaviour to him at 685-8292 or to the Variety Club office at 669-2313.
