With the serious lack of jobs available,
some companies have decided to cut back on

the hours employees put in so others will not
be laid off.

The new policy on in-camera
meetings was demonstrated
by North Vancouver City
council Monday night as
council members trooped
out of the chamber three
minutes after the start of the
meeting to consider a tax
matter in-camera.

About ten minutes later
they came back again,
ratified the decision they had
reached (increasing the tax

rate on industrial ane .

normal business.

There was controversy
earlier this year over council
making decisions in-camera
and then ratifymg those
decisions at the end of the
meeting, after most
members of the public had
gone home.

Council's new policy is to
save in-camera decisions to
the next council meeting,
unijess the item is of urgency,
in which case council will
deal with it immediately
after the in-camera session.
