That was what everyone wanted to know as the. Capilano College men’s basketball team had their Totem Conference opener called off only minutes into the second half, since everybody was slipping and sliding and falling down, and two players injured themselves. “It got to the point where it was ridiculous,” noted Blues coach Neil Chester of the Friday game in Nanaimo against host Malaspina College Mariners. “Even the referees were falling down.” The problem wasn't stronger than usual thirst quenchers however, but with the floor. Apparently in the last five minutes of the opening half, the floor started giving problems to the players. They began to lose their footing, probably due to moisture from a faulty ventilation system. Says Chester, “It was totally bizarre and ['m not sure if that was the exact problem, but when the second half started, centre Randy Jones re-sprained his ankle and had to come off. Then Jay Walter slid right across the floor into the Mariners bench and hit his head, so | pulled the team off.” SKYLINE B3 - Wednesday, November 25, 1981 - North Shore News SLIDING SAIT defenceman sends ball flying away from University of Victoria forward at the Capilano College.
