These words are not mere abstractions or unattainable ideals to Betty Williams, Nobel Peace Prize winner from Belfast, Northern Ireland. On April 17, at 8 p.m. in the Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver, Mrs. Williams is speaking on her part, shared with many others, in the world-wide struggle for French To learn how to speak French well you can pore over grammar books, sit in night school classes, or converse with tape recor- ders. Or you can drop into a comer grocery in Geneva and chat about the weather. Learning French by living it is the purpose behind the Travel/Study tour to French-speaking Swit- zerland being sponsored this by Capilano College. The tour, from May 29 to June 26, will spend one week in each of Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchatel and Montreux, studying French both by formal instruction Belfast. Her work here is sponsored by the local group of Amnesty, together with the Vancouver branches of the United Nations and the Canadian Conference of Christians and Jews. Mrs. Williams work began in the summer of 1976, when she witnessed a tragic ac- cident. Three children were the fun by getting involved in the life of a French-speaking city. Five days a week, in- structor Dauphine Ravolo will give five hours of in- .Striction on French vocabulary, expressions and discussion. The rest of the time students will spend being introduced to Swit- zeriand, both the historical and modern sides of the land. As well as visiting historical sites, colleges and museums, students will go to supermarkets, banks, stores, restaurants and _ theatres, travelling by bus, train, or killed and their mother seriously injured when a car of an IRA member, shot dead by British troops, went out of control and ran into the family.
