Aw representative from Lions. Gate: Hospital con- ' fronted - North Vancouver City Council: Monday night ‘asking: for ‘support ‘to fund - $300,00 in improvements to child care facilities at the hospital. , : CR. Rustcineyer, _ General. Manager of the — B.C. Safety Council said he is looking for'a $1 donation from.every man, woman and - child on. the North Shore to assist’ in financing the modernization project. That comes to nearly. $200,000. The remainder, he said had already been collected: $75,000 from, donations ' taken-at the opening of the new. Hudson’s ‘Bay store at Park * Royal and $33,000 collected by the LGH Ladies Auxiliary. ; Rustemeyer explained that “this is the year of. the child and children care is an important part of the hospital facilities that need to be renovated.” “Right now the children’s floor has io facility where parents can stay with their children,” he - explained, “and our present set-up does not allow close observation of children as required. ” ‘Rustemeyer told council the hospital required the facility right now which is why he took the matter of funding into its own hands. “We want to do it this year,” he said. “We don’t want it to be delayed.” “If we waited for the provincial government and the GVRD to get it going it would take ten years.” So far, Rustemeyer admitted, the hospital has not ap- proached Victoria _ balance, . . ‘for financial support. - ‘-. He said that ‘if the . $200,000 goal’ was not reached, the hospital would be prepared to: borrow the . project going. Alderman .Gordon Cross seriously «doubted if. the project deserved such “high: priority “with the hospital $1.2 million in the hole”. + “I can’t see you justifying . he. said... “Here you have a ‘hospital. the’ expenditure,” that gets a government ‘A’ grant and is still losing money, and on the other hand the board of directors are ignoring the cost of. the deficit by trying to fund ‘Cadillac’ treatment.’’ “Mayor Jack Loucks, a member of the hospital . ‘said part of the board, financial problem of the hospital is the amount of. - money they do receive from Victoria. - - ‘He said LGH receives $24 per diem from the provincial coffers, while other hospitals in the province get $34.50 per diem. ® “The directors seem -to . think that we are being penalized , for being ef- ficient,” ‘he said. “We haven’t been treated adequately for what we’ve done.” Loucks said LGH is not providing ‘Cadillac’ ment, but he was quick to point out that the hospital care in Lions Gate is. “as good as any in the province.’ Council will make a decision whether or not to -ebuttoolate | for District grant North -Vancouver District council found itself divided Monday upon a request by Lions Gate Hospital that council receive a delegation in connection with a fund- raising drive for the child- ren’s floor at the hospital. At first both Alderman Peter Powell and Alderman Ball were in’ favour of receiving the delegation, believing that it was merely to seck council approval for a vag day or some other form of fund raising. It transpired, however, that what the hospital plan- ned was to ask for a capital grant from the District. Council has a policy that it will not receive delegations seeking such grants. The correct method is to process these requests through cor- respondencc. li was also pointed out that the 1979 ‘budget was too close to completion for the consideration of further grants. A motion to refuse to receive a delegation was carried three to two. BEAVER FLYER CORRECTION The Deluxe 7 pce.
