French Immersion students

Vancouver District Council for assistance in financing-a

Grade 7 Quebec exchange trip.

Eighteen Grade 7 French Im-
mersion students: will travel to
Levy, Quebec, on Mar. 10 for a
; 10-day introduction to life as a
francophone Canadian, which will
include billeting with a French-.
speaking host family, going into
French :classrooms and - visiting
Lowes Town Quebec, the Parlia-
ment Buildings and other cultural
institutions.

however, says they haven’t heard
back from any of the service clubs
and are starting to give up hope.

One fundraiser that has proven
successful, however, is the sale of
the North Shore Family Services’
cookbook, Fast. and Fantastic.
“That’s a really good fundraiser,”
says Holt. ‘‘People are still asking
me for them.’ To date, the
cookbook sales have earned the
school $650.

while Cleveland Elementary, the
other North Shore French Immer-
sion elementary school, is still iry-
ing to find a host school in
Quebec.

Holt’s son, Patrick, went
through elementary school French
Immersion and her daughter,
Rebecca, is now in Larson
School’s Grade 7 Immersion class.
Holt says the immersion experience
is good for children because know-
ing a second language ‘‘gives them
an added dimension. to the way
they think. It makes their brain
work a little harder .... and it is the
other official language of the
country.””
