restaurant to the expansive
second-storey North
Vancouver dining room best
known for hosting Vivace!.

The simple French bistro
menu and dining approach
has thus far played well in the
120-seat venue. But consis-
tency of patronage and restau-
rant experience offered will
determine whether the Segeurs
make a long-term go of it.

The room deserves a win-
ner.

strip starts with the elegant
room originally brought to
lite by David Vance and his
Remarkable Dog back in the
early 1990s and adds to it the
culinary know-how of ¢x-
Salute! fronuman Sergio Gallo
and his wife Kathy Cleveland-
Gallo. Good panini sandwich-
es and pasta dishes.

A recently approved
licence has added wine and
beer to Loco’s caffeine-based
refreshment.

his attempt to secure official

approval to turn his
Dundarave Cate into a 65-seat
neighbourhood pub, propri-
ctor John Wiechold joined
with Chris Bradley and took
the road less travelled to arrive
at the same destination.

Bradley, who operates the
original North Vancouver
Brit, applied his pub know-
how to the task at hand and,
ita trice: another Brit, this
one with 160 seats.

Neither are officially
British neighbourheod pubs,
hut, tor all intents and pur-
poses, both are.

Lots of ale on tap, live
music, Union Jacks, peanut
shells on the floor, football
jerseys hanging trom the ceil-
ing.

All bets off on how long
Brit West will fast, however.

bright festive light to the grim
grey of January on the North
Shore with what is now an
annual celebration of Scortish
poct Robbie Burns.

On the menu: you can bet
on haggis, maybe champit tat-
ties, perhaps neeps, and Tyspy -
Laird; and, of course, a dram
or ovo of Scotland’s single-
malt water of life; choruses of
Auld Lang Syne and readings
of other Burns works deliv-
ered in varying approxima-
tions of the Scottish dialect
from the more daring atten-
dees.

Well worth experiencing
even if you can’t make head
nor tail of what Burns is on
about.
