The fifth, maverick trustee Guy
Heywood, abstained after his effort
to draft a motion expressing the dis-
trict’s support for facilitating choice

squashed by the remaining trustees.

“Are there ways to include the
element of choice within our pre-
sent system,” Heywood asked.

Trustees who voted against
responding cited no new proposal
as their reason for not responding.

Heywood said he would have
supported the original alternate
school proposal kad it not included
additional costs to the schoo} dis-
trict,

But said Kitson, “Our problem
is not knowing what is there,” she
told the board referring to a venue
with room to house additional stu-
dents.

“Our problem is not knowing
what you want," MacLellan replied.
