Tourism Vancouver takes
marketing to the internet
TOURISM Vancouver,
co-operating with
Tourism BC and Air
Canada, has set up an
interactive Internet
guide to attract more
meetings and conven-
tions to the city from
around the world.
The new Interactive Guide
is at
“Meeting planners around
the world need information
“around the clock — and the
Internet provides that power-
ful, dectsion- -making influ-
ence. And we've set up the
Vancouver Meeting Guide so
they are only a click away from
key Vancouver hotels and
. Festaurants — facilities that
can readily confirm — the
arrangements they need. With
Air Canada to get them and
their meeting to and from the
city, it’s a strategically strong
approach,” says Jayne Venu,
manager, marketing technolo-
gy and administration,
‘Tourism Vancouver.
She adds, “Tourism
Vancouver members are from
-all over the Greater Vancouver
area. Member links to the site
give people coming to the city
plenty of reasons to visit and
to add other parts of the
Lower Mainiaad and B.C. to
their itineraries before and
after their meeting.”
The Interactive Guide to
meetings and events in
Vancouver focuses on hotels
such as the Sutton Place, the
Marriott, the Four Seasons,
the Wall Centre, the Pan
Pacific, and Shangri-.a’s
Pacific Palisades. But it also
links a number of other
Tourism Vancouver members
that offer convention and
meeting facilities, such as the
Furry Creek Golf and
Country Club and the Pacific
National Exhibition.
“Meeting and convention
planners have two main goals:
to provide good, cost-eftec-
tive facilities for their assembly
and to enhance the visiting
experience of their delegates.
We've designed the
Interactive Guide to provide
exactly that type of informa-
tion,” says Bruce MacMillan,
vice-president, sales and mar-
ket development, Tourism
Vancouver. “The views
offered at the site give plan-
ners a great look at our city’s
facilities and the contact infor-
mation makes it easy for them
to pick up the phone and get
